GEORGE CARLIN ~ EARLY HBO SPECIALS

After receiving some interesting comments about an earlier post entitled, George Carlin - Religion is Bullshit, I decided to put up some of the guy's early HBO specials. For those of you keeping score, George is up to 14 specials, between 1977 and 2008, the latest of which, It's Bad For Ya, is just as bitingly funny and stingingly honest as anything he's ever done. Also, a 14-disc box set, George Carlin: All My Stuff, came out last year, and includes all of George's HBO specials (see link below for more info).

HBO comedy specials have been a staple of the cable network for decades now, but - as many have forgotten - George Carlin practically invented the genre. I am posting his first four specials. If you need a recommendation, try Carlin on Campus, which includes A Place For My Stuff, Baseball and Football, and a hilarious routine about driving. Carlin at Carnegie is also quite popular. 'Course, maybe I'm just saying that because I grew up watching them (those two in particular), usually with a scrambled cable picture and very low volume, so as not to let any disapproving parental figures know I was listening to something so filthy, foul, and funny.
If you remember his early stuff fondly - before he became synonymous with the word cantankerous - here is a smorgasbord of late 70s/early 80s Carlin. Enjoy.
