It's November '09, which means the holidays are nearly upon us, radio stations are beginning to play Christmas music, and that shrill screaming noise you hear is the sound of millions of Twilight fans pledging their undead undying devotion to their favorite vampire or werewolf. This series is nothing if not divisive and, while I do not count myself among the die hard Twi-hards, neither am I one of those who abhor it. Standing firmly (alone) in the middle ground, I gave The Twilight Saga: New M...

No, I do not fit the demographic for this series, but that hasn't stopped me from doing some investigative reading to see what all the hubbub is about. My thoughts on Twilight, the book and the film, can be found here, and on New Moon, the novel, here. Now that the second film in the series has opened to record-breaking box office figures, I would be remiss not to post my review.Since Summit Entertainment's synopsis is about as short as I could make it, let's start there:Bella Swan is devastat...

After getting a comment from a reader regarding my article King, Kubrick and The Shining, the question was posed: Stephen King says that the Kubrick ending (Jack's 1921 photo) was used in an old Twilight Zone episode. Which episode is he referring to?It took a bit of research, but what I found was startling. The 1960 Twilight Zone episode, The After Hours, stars Anne Francis as a customer in a department store who is looking to buy a gold thimble. What does this have to do with The Shining? E...

I've done a few Twilight-related articles here ... however, after recently doing a bio of Elvis Presley over at Examiner, something occurred to me about one of the mysterious reasons this series is so popular.Yes, Stephenie Meyer paid homage to some classically successful literature in her books (Romeo and Juliet, anyone?), and basically told a story about an “every-girl” in love with the "ultimate bad boy with a heart of gold," but when it comes to the furor over the film series, I'...

On last night's MTV Movie Awards Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner premiered the teaser trailer for (the somewhat awkwardly titled) The Twilight Saga - New Moon. If you are a Twi-hard, this is probably not exactly news to you. Some have worried that this fast-tracked (to put it mildly) sequel to last year's sleeper hit ($380 million worldwide) would suffer from hasty production. However, those familiar with the book will find that this looks pretty good for a thrown together...

Earlier this year, Stephen King incurred the wrath of legions of Twilight fans when he made some critical comments about Stephenie Meyer. Mr. King -- THE bestselling author of the 20th century -- has sold an estimated 350 million books over 35 years. His influence on our popular culture is incalculable. In an interview with USA Today, when asked about his influences, and in turn, whom he believes he has influenced, the subject turned to J.K. Rowling and Stephenie Meyer, about whom King said:...

A couple months ago, wanting to write an informed review of the film version of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight, I picked up a mass-market paperback and read the thing for myself -- click here for a review of both. Although teenage girls (of all ages) are probably most responsible for turning this book and its three (so far) sequels into a cult phenomenon, there are many outside of this demographic who have also fallen under its spell. While you will never hear me ooze the same enthusiasm for it th...

While the worldwide success of Twilight has given Summit Entertainment its biggest hit ever (the sequel, New Moon, is being fast-tracked for a November 2009 release), Devon Kelly from The Juice Box has just posted a hilarious, holiday-themed spoof.Parodies of Stephenie Meyer's vampire romance are all over the web, but this one is by far the funniest I've seen ... however, like the movie, you might have to be a fan to appreciate it.

As an aspiring novelist with grand aspirations, I've found it impossible to ignore the fervor of Twilight-mania that has been sweeping the nation – anyone who frequents bookstores, the internet or has a teenage daughter couldn't possibly miss that buzz. Based on Stephenie Meyer's 2005 debut novel and being released as a film today, I wanted to write an informed review of both, so ...I read the book. A week ago. And thought it was pretty darn good. The story (for those of you unlearned) i...
